Delany Bal is an American sculptor focused on fusing digital fabrication with ancient artistic practices. Working to master this hybrid craft, she integrates digital technology with cast and fabricated metals, ceramics, woodworking, and experimental surface treatments.
Hannah Overton, a 2016 UT alumna, majored in English Literature but took as many art classes as she could fit in her schedule. “Creativity has always been one of the most important parts of my life,” she says. As a kid, she would split her time equally between reading and writing, making art, and doing theater. She took photos with disposable cameras, used Microsoft Paint and Windows Movie Maker to create stop-motion videos, and spent a lot of time sketching.

Elysia Mann is the printmaking studio technician at the University of Tennessee School of Art. She oversees the maintenance of presses and tools used in the print facilities including intaglio, lithography, relief, letterpress, and screen print.
Kay Dartt, Shepherd University professor and metal sculptor, comes to the UT School of Art on Thursday, February 23, at 7:30pm for a lecture. Dartt’s creative practice combines sculpture, engineering, education, and community outreach. She teaches sculpture courses, engineering courses, and manages an interdisciplinary fabrication space called the FASTEnER Lab.

Narratives play a prominent theme in junior Jace Hermanto’s artistic practice. He became interested in mythology at a young age because of its use of fictional worlds and creatures. While earning his associate’s degree at Pellissippi State Community College, Hermanto’s painting and drawing told stories that allowed him to escape from real-world issues.
For the third year in a row, the UT Downtown Gallery partnered with the Big Ears Festival to serve as a venue for film programming, while School of Art faculty and alumni were invited to show their video art at another 2018 Big Ears event, the 12-Hour Drone.
This fall, the Ewing Gallery of Art + Architecture presents Irons in the Fire: UT Sculpture Alumni Exhibition in conjunction with the 2018 Mid-South Sculpture Alliance Conference, which is co-hosted by the UT Sculpture program. This three-day conference will bring hundreds of artists to Knoxville, including the renowned sculptor and printmaker Chakaia Booker, who will give a keynote address at the Knoxville Museum of Art and open her solo exhibition at the UT Downtown Gallery, both on Friday, Oct. 5.
Before she graduated from UT in 2009, Leanne Moe-McQueen was already planning her pottery business. While still an undergraduate student, she designed her first kiln with Frank Martin, associate professor of ceramics, and opened a small studio at 212 East Harper Street in Maryville, Tennessee. Within a few years of earning her BFA, McQueen had moved Studio 212 into a much larger building, expanded her business to offer community art classes, and established her brand, McQueen Pottery.
Brian and Carolyn Jobe met at UT while earning their Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees at UT. They married and, after both graduating in 2004, Carri continued her art practice and worked in nonprofit administration in San Antonio.
