Noushin Mousavi is a multidisciplinary artist from Iran who lives and works in the United States as current Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She has recently chosen performance, walking sculpture and time-based media as preferred medium with a background in graphic design and visual arts. Her artwork is rooted in her personal life experiences while embracing a universal theme which she mostly focus on emotional and physical challenges of migration including feelings of loneliness, adaptation, belonging, and detachment from past life memories. Her work also has always been connected to nature and the environment in which she lives.

Artist Statement

I find a strong bond between nature and myself. Since I immigrated, I have been seeking a connection between the land I left and my new home. As a multidisciplinary artist I utilize household objects, natural materials, and new media in my works to represent challenging situations of immigrants and connecting my past and present life. My body plays a main role in my performances as an immigration main object as well.

My works are reflection of the journey of my life. In my recent works, I am interested to incorporate cultural moments and to visualize the imperceptible sensations of culture shock, adaptation, and homesickness to exhibit who I am.
