Faculty Work on Exhibit, Earning Recognition

Assistant Professor of Cinema Studies and Time-Based Art Heather Coker Hawkins’ short dance film Gravity Wins (2022) was screened at the 2024 Movies by Movers Film Festival in Durham, North Carolina. It also enjoyed official selection at the University & Video Association Conference juried screening and at the Raleigh Film & Art Festival.

Printmaking Professor Althea Murphy-Price exhibited her work at the Paris gallery Magnin-A over summer 2024.

Professor John Powers, who teaches sculpture and time-based art, had an installation in the Personal Structures Biennial at the European Cultural Center in Venice.

Associate Professor of Painting and Drawing Mary Laube had a solo show at Morgan Lehman Gallery in New York City over summer 2024.

Assistant Professor of Painting and Drawing Maurice Moore was awarded the University of Calgary Artistic Research Award, a prize that celebrates outstanding contributions of artist-researchers to the annual conference of Performance Studies International.

Painting and drawing Professor Jered Sprecher had a solo show at the Ferrara Showman Gallery in New Orleans.

Teaching Assistant Professor Marta Faust published an article in the peer-reviewed Word & Image journal titled “Art, illusion, and recycled images in Johannes Pauli’s anecdotes on painters.”

Associate Professor of Art History Mary Campbell won Princeton University Press’s Global Equity Grant to help fund image documentation for her forthcoming book on the Knoxville-born artist Beauford Delaney.
