Introductory Printmaking – Spring 2023 -ARTN Sections for Non-Art Majors!
Intaglio
ARTA262 Intaglio (25387) & ARTN262 Intaglio for Non-Art Majors (36102)
Mondays—Wednesdays, 2:00– 4:45pm with Koichi Yamamoto, Professor of Art – art.utk.edu/printmaking/yamamoto/
Intaglio printing from metal and plastic plates in traditional and contemporary techniques of etching, soft ground, drypoint, aquatint, and color methods. Explore the same printing processes that Francisco Goya used in the 18th and 19th century, as well as the same  method used to print currency. Through lectures, demos and group critiques, emphasis is placed on personal artistic development.

Explore screen printing as a fine art medium including development and application of various stencils, from hand-drawn to photo mechanical. This process uses the same methods that Andy Warhol used to create editions and variable editions. Through lectures, demos and group critiques, emphasis is placed on personal artistic development.

Book Arts and Papermaking introduces students to hand papermaking and a variety of book formats and concepts, including printmaking processes. Projects include pamphlets, accordion books, drum leaf, zines, and more. Through lectures, demos, and group critiques, emphasis is placed on personal artistic development.

Figuration in Space

Figuration in Space is a Special Studies studio course, specializing in the figure and absence of the figure. This course covers figure sculpture in ceramics and mixed media, installation, and readings on contemporary and historical artists. Students from all disciplines are welcome! Please bring an open mind.
