MFA students from the UT School of Art were invited to exhibit work at the Graduate Student Senate Awards banquet on Monday, March 27, 2023 at 6PM in the Student Union Ballroom.

The GSS Awards Banquet is the annual celebration of graduate student excellence at UT and is held during the Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week (GPSAW). This prestigious event allows the Chancellor, members of her cabinet, the Provost, and Dean Thompson of the Graduate School to personally recognize award recipients from across all academic disciplines at UT including the top graduate students of the School of Art and their work.

Pictured here are (l to r) Ernest L Brothers, PhD, associate dean in the Graduate School, with MFA students Kaitlyn Anderson, LaKesha Lee, Hannah Langer, Kyle Cottier, Casey Wolhar, Chloe Wack, Ruchi Singh, and Emily Bivens, Director of Graduate Studies at the UT School of Art. Below, Provost John Zomchick and Emily Bivens interact with a work of art by ceramics artist Hannah Langer. Artists with works in the exhibit but not pictured are Francis Akosah, Abigail Hedley, Saloni Parekh, and Hannah Seggerman.

GSS President George T. Fields made some opening remarks. He recognized those who attended the banquet but focused on the graduate students. Fields listed award recipients, students, guests, nominators, administrators, senators of GSS, musicians, and artists as the people who made the night possible. “What we have in this room is a community of people who recognize that graduate and professional students give a lot to this university and deserve a lot in return,” Fields said. “I can’t think of a better way to shine a spotlight on those around us who deserve to have all eyes on them.”
