MFA Student Francis Akosah Participates in Sculpture Trails Internship

June 21, 2023

Work by Francis Akosah

Francis AkosahFrancis Akosah Akwaboa is a student in the MFA class of 2025.  Beginning June 28, he will be joining an internship at Sculpture Trails near Bloomington, Indiana.

Sculpture Trails Outdoor Museum is located in the woods and the rolling hills of Solsberry, Indiana. The Museum’s Mission is to bring Outdoor Sculpture and Art Education to the community through various hands-on sculpture workshops, services and programs. Sculpture Trails offers a number of internships each summer. Francis will be working on the sculpture pictured here, completing it in cast iron at the 2023 Sculpture Trails Iron Pour. Francis has prepared a model that will eventually be replaced with cast iron. Other additions to the piece will be built in ceramics.

Founded in 2002, Sculpture Trails Outdoor Museum has grown to proudly display over 166 large-scale sculptures by artists from around the world. The sculpture that Francis completes this summer will be installed as part of the outdoor collection viewed by visitors to the area.

The museum continually reviews work and offers many sculpture workshops and career development opportunities for artists.

Francis Akosah Akwaboa was born in Ghana and received his Bachelor of Art in Metal and Leather Integration at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology, Kumasi, Ghana, in 2018. He completed a Master of Art in Studio Art at Eastern Illinois University, Charleston, Illinois in 2021. He has recently completed a Graduate Assistanceship at the Doudna Fine Arts Center.
