Stage your future

The Master of Fine Arts degree in studio art with a concentration in time-based art is for students interested in multimedia exploration, including but not limited to animation, creative coding, film, performance, physical computing, sound, transmedia storytelling, and video. Our program promotes interdisciplinary exploration, and our students work with faculty across the School of Art and university. MFA students investigate traditional and emerging practices and alternative production methods used in contemporary screen-, sound-, and performance-based art. Our graduates also develop the communication, research, and critical thinking skills needed to be thriving creative professionals.

Program Highlights

Curriculum

Our program follows a rigorous, three-year course of study. The first two years of study include coursework in time-based art and electives in the School of Art and across the university. In the third year of study, students are responsible for developing, executing, and defending a project of their own design. Along with other School of Art MFA candidates, these projects culminate in an exhibition and/or presentation at the School of Art’s Ewing Gallery.

Exhibition Opportunities
