During her time in Columbus, Hannah was also awarded a Greater Columbus Arts Council Funds for Artists Grant and completed a fellowship at Columbus Printed Arts Center.

Artist Statement

My work is a response to questions regarding the efficacy of figure painting as a woman. I investigate the female nude within landscape in relation to the art historical context of Western figure painting. My imagery is drawn from idealized representations of women, most notably the three graces motif, which I dismantle through multiplicity.  The notion of multiplicity is achieved in the work through printmaking techniques such as screen print and relief, as well as hand-cut duralar stencils. Using these techniques, I work primarily in a substrate of un-stretched yet primed canvas, cutting it to create layered acrylic collages. My practice celebrates feminine aesthetics through color and pattern, drawing influence from the Pattern and Decoration Movement. Color and pattern also serve as modes of multiplicity in the work, disrupting figure and ground and aiding the deconstruction of feminine ideals. As an artist, I find importance in translating notions of figure painting and femininity into the contemporary to positively contribute to the representation of women in society at large.
