PRESS NAMING CEREMONY IN HONOR OF BETSY WORDEN
Wednesday September 10, 2008, 4:30pm, AA241C
The UTK School of Art is pleased to announce that it will hold a ceremony to name our new American French Tool Printing Press “Betsy” in honor of Betsy Worden on Wednesday September 10th at 4:30pm in Art and Architecture room 241C. Worden was a University of Tennessee graduate and a respected member of the Knoxville arts community, creating works in watercolor, weaving and printmaking. In 2005 the Betsy Worden Endowment in Printmaking was established to enrich student opportunities in our highly ranked Printmaking Program. The new press “Betsy” is the largest hand operated press ever produced by Conrad Machine Company of Whitehall, Michigan. The bed of the press measures 5 x 10 feet and is designed to print large-scale intaglios, relief prints and monotypes. The ceremony will include light refreshments and a printing demonstration. This event is free and open to the public.
Below are photos of the press and its delivery and installation the week of June 9, 2008.
