Letterpress Studio 2011-2012

An open house was held at the UT Letterpress Studio on Sunday March 21st 2010. In attendance were over 50 people to learn about the studio and to help print a poem by Marilyn Kallet, Professor of English. Professor Kallet also presented a wonderful reading of her poems.
The UT Letterpress Studio is a joint project of the Printmaking and Graphic
Design programs at UTK. The studio provides tutorials in letterpress
printing to both graduate and undergraduate students at the university, and
over the past two years has made it possible for students in studio art,
graphic design, architecture, creative writing and other disciplines to work
on books and broadsides created through letterpress. Additionally, the
facility has been used as a resource and teaching tool for a variety of
classes at the university.
The Printmaking and Graphic Design programs in the UTK School of Art include a letterpress studio for creative research, collaborative projects and instruction. The studio is located in room 335A of the Art and Archiitecture Building.
Gradaute Students Neil Ward and Jen Scheuer are the studio facilitators. The shop schedule is:
Letterpress Studio Hours for Spring 2012
Monday & Wednesday: 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Thursday: 8 - 10 p.m.
The facility is also available for presentations and class projects by prior arrangement. In the past classes and students in art, architecture and creative writing have worked in the studio.
You must attend a tutorial to have access to the shop to work on your own projects. When working in the shop you will need to bring: vinyl or latex gloves, apron, paper cut to size, small notebook or sketchbook and a pencil.
For more information, or to schedule a class demonstration, please email Jen Scheuer (jenscheuer@yahoo.com) or Neil Ward (nowdesigns@gmail.com).
