We launched an exciting project led by three School of the Art distinguished alumni—Wade Guyton (’95), Meredyth Sparks (’94), and Josh Smith (’98) — each of whom selected nine artists from among the School of Art alumni and former Artists-in-Residence (AIR) to contribute an image to an individualized box of prints. Guyton, Sparks, and Smith each have contributed their own image and custom-designed the boxes for their individual editions. Each print in the Limited Box Edition is a signed digital print using completely archival materials. Each print measures 19” x 13” and is one of an edition of 100.
The suite of three boxes, including 31 prints in total, is available to donors who make tax-deductible gifts to the Artist-in-Residence Endowment Campaign. All proceeds from this project will be directed to the endowment for the AIR Program in Painting and Drawing, now celebrating its 35th year.
Founded in 1982, the AIR program supports two semester-long residencies each academic year. Since its inception, some 80 artists, collectively, have taught more than 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students. This program, one of the oldest of its kind in the country, has a remarkable roster of participating artists. Many of these artists are now associated with major art galleries and are exhibiting in national and international museums. This teaching opportunity was the first for many of the former AIRs, who have now gone on to successful teaching positions in prestigious colleges and universities.
The three alumni curators—Guyton, Sparks, and Smith—have very successful careers in the arts. All three regularly stage exhibitions in prestigious national and international museums and galleries. Guyton currently has a one-person exhibition at the Museum Brandhorst, Munich; Smith was recently in the exhibition Painting 2.0 at the Museum Moderner Kunst Sifftung Ludwig Wien, Austria; and Sparks recently presented a solo exhibition at the Kai Matsumiya Gallery in New York City.

If you donate to the AIR Endowment Campaign you can feel confident in knowing that your gift will both procure the Limited Box Edition for your collection, and, in addition, fund the development and opportunities of future UT artists who are in the footsteps of our curators and contributing artists.
