Admission Requirements

To enter the Graphic Design program students must have passed Art 101 + 103 with a "C" or better. If students have not taken and passed Art 151 with a "C" or better they must enroll in Art 151 concurrently with Art 251. Enrollment in Art 251 is priortized based on 1. having the required prerequisites, 2. GPA, students with a 3.30 or better are given preference and 3, number of accumulated hours, students with more hours are given preference.

Once students have entered the Graphic Design sequence they must pass a portfolio review at the end of the sophomore year to enter junior studies. Traditionally 50% of the students who apply for credit in Art 350 Portfolio review are accepted into Art 351 and 356 in the Fall semester.

Juniors are evaluated at the end of Art 351 and Art 356. They put up portfolios that are reviewed by the full faculty. Not passing the review in art 351 is reflected in a grade of "D" or "F" for Art 351.

The Seniors are reviewed at the end of their spring semester where they have a formal thesis presentation and portfolio showing. At each portfolio review class organization is discussed and the curriculum is adjusted for each class.

The Graphic Design program has a solid, respectable record of achievement that is extraordinary given the limited physical and budgetary resources it has at its command. A visionary faculty, considerable creative-problem solving, motivated students, and talented graduate students and adjunct faculty, have contributed to the design programs current successes. The program's community outreach programs, Design Center and Practicum, are especially noteworthy and are developing a national profile.
