There are several forms of financial aid, loans, part-time jobs, and
fellowships available through The Graduate School and the Financial Aid
Office. Interested students should contact the appropriate office. Bulletins
are periodically distributed and the Graduate School Newsletter lists
fellowships and scholarship opportunities. Students are encouraged to
apply for all scholarship/fellowships available. Some scholarships are
not awarded simply because no one applied.
The Ewing and the Burnette Scholarships are awarded every year to graduate
students in the School of Art. The Ewing Scholarship is given for outstanding
achievement and the Burnette Scholarship for outstanding achievement and
financial need. Applications are submitted to the School Graduate Committee
during the spring semester and are comprised of a letter requesting consideration
and a set of slides of current artwork. Evaluation is by the entire faculty.
Questions regarding application procedures should be directed to the Graduate
Program Coordinator.
Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, located in Gatlinburg, is an arts and crafts school affiliated
with the University and the School of Art. Summer assistantships are sometimes
available. Contact Arrowmont for more information.
Summer session teaching opportunities in the School of Art are occasionally
available to graduate students. Generally, students who demonstrate outstanding
ability and have the confidence of the faculty are selected to fill these
positions. Interested students should contact the School Director in the
fall semester. Other teaching or workshop opportunities might be available
at the Knoxville Museum of Art, Arrowmont, or local craft organizations.
