Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts lies forty miles east of the UT campus and two miles from the entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. This internationally known visual arts complex is renown for its intensive one and two week spring and summer workshops in clay, fiber, surface design, metal, enamel, woodturning, furniture, stained and kiln glass, a paper/book arts, mixed media, drawing, painting and photography. Weekend and weeklong workshops are available in October. In November and December Arrowmont offers evening adult community classes and Saturday morning children's community classes in January and February. Every year Arrowmont offers a scholarship that allows an undergraduate student enrolled in the School of Art to come and participate in a summer workshop. Arrowmont proudly hosts national and international faculty. The complex includes three galleries, with an active schedule of juried, invitational, theme and media-related exhibitions, a large scale resource center offering a collection of art and craft books and periodicals, and a well-stocked book and supply store. It also hosts national and international craft conferences. Arrowmont has an 11-month artists-in-residency program for emerging artists. Credit for some courses taken at Arrowmont can be offered through UT.
